Hey guys,

We hate to have to do this, but an issue has come up that we need to address.

At MajorCrimesTV.net, we work hard to provide you with the best news, information and exclusive content for Major Crimes. We’ve been committed to doing this since August 2012, when the show first…

So, not that I have a dog in this fight over content, but curious if this is what is happening - for example if an actress from the series posts a photo on her FB page for her fans and someone from one of these “groups” uses the FB share button and posts it, linking it back to the actresses’ FB page, you would object because the photo was supposed to be exclusive to your site? And you are asking us to report back to you where the photo shows up? Also if the network later releases a photo that was supposed to be exclusive to your group, should no other group post it? I ask because I have recently seen both things happen. Is this what you are objecting to?

There are two separate issues here. The first scenario you mention, that’s a privacy/common sense/respect issue. We can’t stop people from saving and reposting photos that the actors or crew post on their private accounts - even though we feel strongly that it’s a huge violation of their privacy, and encourage everyone to act in a respectful manner and not betray the trust given when these people accept our friend requests.

An example from the second scenario, which is what prompted our post today. We were given a number of exclusive advance photos from tonight’s episode from TNT. We released the first two of these yesterday. We put our watermark on the photo, and just shared them on tumblr, because those were the terms of our agreement for sharing them from TNT. Several hours after we posted them, at least one of the fan groups and people in question cropped out our watermark, and reposted the photos onto their page. This is a person we reached out to months ago about this exact thing, and asked her that when she wanted to share content with her group, to share directly from us and not repost, and certainly not to remove watermarks. Her response was to block us from her page, and blatantly remove our watermark and repost the photos.

Again, this is just the latest example of this. We have four other exclusive (and really awesome) photos from tonight’s episode we were very excited to share, but have opted to hold them back at this time because of this happening.

Hey guys,

We hate to have to do this, but an issue has come up that we need to address.

At MajorCrimesTV.net, we work hard to provide you with the best news, information and exclusive content for Major Crimes. We’ve been committed to doing this since August 2012, when the show first premiered. We spend hours every week finding, sharing and creating content for you to enjoy, and over time we have become known and a trusted name with the cast and crew, which in turn has given us more opportunity to share content, events and other experiences with you.

We are also lucky that we have developed a close working relationship with TNT and Warner Bros, which has allowed us to have access to and share some fantastic exclusive content, like episode stills and other photos that are not released to anyone else. We love getting that content so we can share it with you- that’s the whole point, for us all to get excited!

However, because of the exclusive nature of the content, we often have limits on how and where we can share it, which means sometimes things are posted on tumblr and not facebook, or posted just within our exclusive articles but not shared by themselves on tumblr, or have had a watermark added to track the image. Obviously our goal is to respect TNT’s wishes about how content is shared - because we want to continue to get it.

Unfortunately, while the great many of you are respectful and only share from the original posts, link to the content instead of reposting or posting to facebook, etc, there are a few people and groups who have taken it upon themselves to take, alter, and repost our exclusive content as their own. This includes deleting watermarks and reposting, posting our exclusive photos directly to their own facebook pages and groups and tagging actors publicly, refusing to credit us (or posting a link to where the content came from) and otherwise altering content that we have specifically indicated is MCTV exclusive.

We have on several occasions politely asked the persons and groups who do this most to stop. We have explained the restrictions we have on the content, and asked them to please respect that, and more importantly, respect what we have been entrusted with access to by the network. They have responded rudely and vocally, and continue to actively repost and alter our content, remove watermarks, etc, and blocked us from being able to monitor their pages. But we have been informed the actions have continued.

We are concerned enough about this issue that it has caused us to limit what we share with you, the fans. We don’t want to do that - it’s the opposite of why we are here. But we can’t risk our relationship with the people who trust us with their content, and that is what these individuals are doing by trying to increase their own popularity by stealing and altering our content. We are asking for you to help us police (ha, see what we did there) yourselves. If you belong to the groups in question that engage in this behavior, please let the group owners know that their behavior is hurting all fans, and ask them to stop.

We hate putting this out publicly, because the great majority of you are wonderful, respectful fans, and we love you. But we also need your help so that we can all do what we like to do best - support Major Crimes.

Thanks for your time,

- MajorCrimesTV Admins

PS- if you have questions about how a post or photo can be shared, you are always welcome to ask us, either via DM here on tumblr, or at admin@majorcrimestv.net

At MajorCrimesTV.net, we pride ourselves at being the best resource of news, information and exclusive content about Major Crimes for fans. As such, whenever news, photos or other information is released publicly or provided to us for release, we are happy to share it.

We feel very strongly about helping to keep the privacy of the cast and crew who work so hard making this show. As such, we will never post photos or information shared on private, personal social media accounts of anyone associated to the show without first getting explicit permission from the owner of that content, and crediting them.

We are fortunate that many of those involved with the show are gracious enough to allow us to become to their friends on their personal facebook accounts. But with that trust comes responsibility, and we will never share anything publicly that is intended to be private. And we ask Major Crimes fans to show respect and restraint when they too are given that trust, or risk losing a very unique and special link to the show and creative forces behind it.

As exciting as it is to see brand new images and tidbits, please remember to respect the privacy of the actors and the creative team of the show.

It has come to our attention that this might be a good time to reiterate the need for fans to be respectful of the social media accounts of the cast and crew.
